PCC Chooses Roland – Newest Piano Lab in the Portland Area
Stephenson installed the new Roland Digital Piano Lab at Portland Community College at Rock Creek.
After playing and reviewing the specifications of many leading digital pianos available, PCC chose a “state of the art” Roland Digital Piano Lab. With more and more interest in their music classes and a growing student body, Peter Zisa was chosen as the “go to” person in gathering the information for the department so they could make the very best decision for the school.
Major concerns were flexibility and ease of expansion, as well as piano like touch and sound. Roland met all the requirements and then exceeded them by offering a “split keyboard” option allowing two students to utilize one keyboard during class. PCC is now able to maximize their return on investment by being able to teach up to 32 students per class with only 16 pianos. With this type of flexibility, space could be minimized and shared with the guitar classes. Cheryl Scott Division Dean and Chris Edwards at the college were thrilled with the results.
This new Roland lab includes the Roland RP-101 digital pianos for the students and teacher console, and the Roland RCS-848 Lab Conferencing System that ties all the instruments together. From the teacher console students can practice individually, in duet or ensemble mode or all together, all under the guidance of the instructor. This makes learning to play the piano much more fun and enjoyable.
